Domenica del Corriere
In November 2025 , I curated an exhibition of Cover illustrations from the Italian periodical , La Domenica della Corriere , .
Between 1899 and 1989 the publishers splashed their front covers with sensationalist interpretations of world news stories .
Whilst the American Evening Post , adorned their magazine with the homely drawings of Norman Rockwell, the Italians had an appetite for graphic disasters, murders and gut wrenching tragedies.
Their stable of the artists ,leading the field with the likes of Achille Beltrami and Walter Molino, whose drawing ability , in the golden era of newspaper illustrators cannot be doubted.
When I first came across these, I was amazed at their existence considering how conservative the British press was during this period
Entranced I started hunting them online and in Italian second hand bookshops .
Some of these on display are for sale for £25.
