This is a series of portraits of British biking women with two paintings from sourced photos that filled the general brief.
I met Tina Swasey at a festival ,driving up in vintage leathers and bike and asked to do her portrait .
This led to be being introduced to a network of women bikers in the uk, some I met in person and others corresponded with.
The project developed into a small documentary of these people who have chosen biking as a central part of their lifestyles.
The Brief I gave them was to represent themselves , how they would like to be viewed in their relationship with their machines and lifestyles. For some it was a fascination with retro styles , others a means of transport.
There was one in particular that I expected push back . Catherine sent a photo of herself on an 80’s superbike wearing hot pants and pink thigh boots. I thought I may have been criticised for the 1980’s “Back street heroes” look, but so far the response has been very positive.
